Mike Piazza:  Adductor Canal Block Provides Similar Analgesia to Femoral Block While Maintaining Motor Function (Mentor:  Catherine M. Thomas, CRNA, MS)

  • Discuss adductor canal nerve blocks and femoral nerve blocks
  • Identify considerations when utilizing peripheral nerve blocks for total knee arthroplasties
  • Describe several potential benefits of adductor canal blocks as compared to femoral nerve blocks

Rashmi Crandall:  Prophylactic Ondansetron in Attenuating Spinal-Induced Hypotension and Bradycardia (Mentor:  Giovanna M. Mahar, CRNA, DNAP)

  • Verbalize the incidences of hypotension and bradycardia occurring after spinal anesthesia in non-obstetric population
  • Understand the role of BJR and 5-HT receptors in hemodynamic changes occurring after spinal anesthesia
  • Understand the role of 5-HT3 antagonists in attenuating hypotension and bradycardia after spinal anesthesia

Timothy Walker:  The Incidence of Neuromuscular Blockade Following the Administration of Sugammadex Compared to Neostigmine in Adult Patients Who Undergo Abdominal Surgery(Mentor:  Catherine M. Thomas, CRNA, MS)

  • Review the pharmacodynamics of the reversal agents neostigmine and sugammadex
  • Review the timing of administration and appropriate utilization of the reversal agents neostigmine and sugammadex
  • Compare the incidence of residual neuromuscular blockade for patients treated with neostigmine versus sugammadex
