 "Medical Mission Trip to Borongan, Philippines”  - coming soon

Overview: We will be discussing the anesthetic techniques that were utilized on this medical mission with the limited resources that were available.  Our presentation will include an overview of the preparation for the mission, organization of the operating rooms and perioperative processes implemented.  Lastly, we will discuss the application process for attending a medical mission.

Overview: Blood loss during spinal surgery can be significant, thus leading to the requirement of allogenic blood transfusions. These are not without risks for potential harm, therefore researchers have explored options for decreasing surgical blood loss. Tranexamic acid has been investigated for its safety and efficacy in reducing blood loss

Overview: Emotional intelligence (EI) is an important skill for personal and professional success.  As we continue to grow within our profession of Nurse Anesthesia, identifying factors associated with strong EI can influence the relationships we have with our colleagues, students, and clients.  This presentation will explain the components of EI and how it affects our own practice and those interested in pursuing the profession

“Obstetrical Hemorrhage and the Anesthetic Management” - coming soon

Overview: For the anesthesia provider, obstetrical emergencies can be classified into hemorrhagic and non-hemorrhagic emergencies.  Obstetrical hemorrhage is known as the most preventable cause of maternal mortality. The purpose of this lecture is to present the most up to date recommendations for the prompt and efficient management of obstetrical hemorrhage. 

“The Disease of Addiction and its Implication in Nurse Anesthesia”

Overview: This Powerpoint lecture will discuss the pathology, etiology, and epidemiology of the disease of addiction specific to the field of Nurse Anesthesiology. The intention of this lecture is to describe the power and profound impact the disease of addiction can have on practitioners, as well as reduce the stigma associated with those who have the disease and those who employ Nurse Anesthetists in recovery.  Lastly, a first person account of the progression, the symptoms, and the recovery from the disease of addiction will be discussed by a survivor of the disease.

Overview: This presentation is based on the current evidence available on this topic in the literature. It will review the evolution and current state of anesthesia practice models. It then explores the factors and value-added services anesthesia providers and/or groups can utilize in business negotiations with facilities and hospital administrators perceptions of these services.

Overview: With a new administration and the start of the 115th Congress, there is a strong commitment to repealing and replacing the affordable care act.  There is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the future of the health care delivery system. This lecture will focus on current activity by Congress and the new administration and how the AANA is working to position CRNAs as a key piece of meaningful reform efforts. The lecture will also focus on other key legislative and regulatory efforts of the AANA DC office and how AANA members can be effective advocates to help drive AANAs priorities on the Federal level.
